IF you suddenly find yourself hankering for a thick, juicy slab of Angus beef, we suggest you meander down to B Hotel in Quezon City this weekend for some really mouthwatering treats. Be warned though: at Johnny’s Steak and Grill, all they serve is steak.
But I don’t hear anybody complaining.
Located at the foot of B Hotel, along Scout Rallos in Quezon City, Johnny’s Steak and Grill is the hotel’s newest dining outlet. Conceptualized as a no-frills steakhouse, it serves up hearty helpings of high-quality US beef at surprisingly affordable prices to its growing number of patrons.
Owned and managed by Bellevue Hotels & Resorts, the leisure company also behind B Hotel, the restaurant—named after patriarch Johnny Chan—is designed for those who like their meat straight up, without the fancy trimmings, nor the steep price tag.
Customers who stop by can expect a selection of cuts that includes Rib-Eye Steak, Rib Steak Tomahawk, Porterhouse Steak, Prime Striploin, US Beef Tenderloin and iRack of Lamb.
Prices range from the P640 US Beef Rib-Eye (300 grams) to the mind-boggling P4,290 Tomahawk (800 grams). For those who prefer something in between, there’s the Certified Angus Beef Prime Rib-Eye (P960 for the 220-gram cut).
All steaks come with a free side dish (cajun fries, steak rice, Mac & Cheese, onion rings or roasted vegetables) and a special sauce (choose among peppercorn sauce, shallots and red wine sauce, mushroom sauce and garlic sauce).
NOT THE USUAL STEAKHOUSE AESTHETIC
Equally interesting as the menu is the restaurant’s design. Johnny’s Steak and Grill is not your garden variety steakhouse, with luxurious chairs, heavily draped windows and warm, ambient lighting.
First off, the restaurant’s design echoes the industrial/steampunk concept of the hotel—sleek, modern and coated with a brushed metal sheen. It’s a stripped down aesthetic that complements its no-frills menu.
Some of the notable features of the restaurant are its open ceiling with exposed pipes, concrete walls with white brick and timber accents, and black-and-white floor tiles. Industrial pendant lighting gives the whole room a sense of balance.
The open kitchen is actually one of the main features of the restaurant. Occupying a significant section of the steakhouse, it is encased in glass for customers to view their steaks being prepared should they wish to do so.
“What is exceptional about Johnny’s Steak and Grill is that the customer has the privilege to place their order, enjoy and choose their preferred meat cut size and watch the chef prepare it from the kitchen, giving the customer a sumptuous dining experience,” says Ryan Chan, managing director of B Hotel.
Plans are under way to open a Johnny’s Steak and Grill in the other Bellevue and B Hotel properties.
