Vivo Mobile Communications Co. Ltd. launched its follow up to its V5 as worldwide shipments in the first quarter increased.
According to International Data Corp. (IDC), the first-quarter shipments growth of 4.3 percent came from companies like Vivo.
“When breaking down precisely where the first quarter growth came from, IDC continues to see the largest catalysts being a handful of Chinese OEMs,” IDC said. “The clear leaders are Huawei, Oppo and Vivo, which have all well outpaced market growth for over a year now. And as these companies gain share in new territories the potential to continue this trend is high.”
IDC data revealed Vivo shipped 18.1 million units in the first quarter for a market share of 5.2 percent. The figure is higher than the 14.6 million units that Vivo shipped in the first quarter of last year.
IDC credits Vivo’s growth in Southeast Asia to “its own promoters aggressively pushing its phones in the market.”
Vivo, however, still trails Oppo in the worldwide shipment of smartphones in the first quarter, which shipped a whopping 25.6 million units for a 7.4-percent market share.
According to Andrew de Guzman, Vivo trainer, the company is positioning its new V5S to consumers addicted to taking their portrait photos called “selfies”.
