Leading global payments technology company Visa has partnered with Ateneo de Manila University to provide a scholarship to a high-school student until he graduates to college.
This is coursed through the “Tulong Dunong” Scholarship program in high school.
It was part of the Visa employee charitable grant, where Visa employee Jesus Michael (Jay) Tirona submitted a grant proposal to award the scholarship worth $10,000, which is equivalent to more than P500,000.
Stuart Tomlinson, Visa country manager for Philippines, said: “At Visa, we empower our employees to make a difference to the communities they live and work in. Each year, Visa employees are given the opportunity to submit a grant proposal for a nonprofit organization of their choice. The grants are awarded not only in money, but also a plan to engage employees with volunteering efforts led by the grant winner.
“We are happy that Jay’s proposal was chosen, and one of the beneficiaries from the Tulong Dunong Foundation will receive the grant money to fund his entire high-school education over six years and not have to worry about the cost of education.”
“Tulong Dunong is very grateful to its benefactors. Organizations like Visa allow us to continue to provide talented and financially challenged students and their families with more opportunities for a better life. Their generosity greatly contributes to our joint endeavors to build platforms for social interactions that can help in nation building,” said Norman Dennis Marquez, Tulong Dunong executive director.
