LYCEUM of the Philippines University again stakes its unblemished record this time against an inspired Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) side in the 93rd National Collegiate Athletic Association seniors basketball tournament.
And the Pirates will shoot for an unprecedented seventh straight victory at the Generals’ domain on Taft Avenue in Manila.
The match, another NCAA on Tour duel, is set at 4 p.m.
The Pirates are coming off a 76-58 rout of the University of Perpetual Help Altas last Friday. EAC, on the other hand, is fresh from slaying last year’s runner-up Arellano University, 85-79, on Tuesday to jump to solo third place with a 3-2 won-lost record.
That made EAC Coach Ariel Sison confident of a win over Lyceum.
“We want to be the first team to beat Lyceum,” said Sison, who is seeking to improve his team’s 6-12 record since he took over as coach last season.
EAC, however, could miss last year’s First Mythical Team member Hamadou Laminou for some time. The 6-foot-9 Cameroonian injured his left knee late in the first quarter in their game against the Chiefs.
In the absence of Laminou, Sydney Onwubere, who is playing his fifth and final season, is expected to step up big just like he did against the Chiefs with his 17 points, 14 rebounds, three assists, three blocks and one steal.
