Trading centers in some parts of the country slashed the prices of carrots, eggplants and native pechay for the week ending January 23, according to the latest report of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
PSA data showed that the price of carrots decreased by P5 per kilogram in trading centers in Tuguegarao and Cabanatuan cities and by as much as P15 per kilo in Zamboanga City. Carrots, however, were more expensive by P5 per kilo in Cotabato and by P10 per kilo in Naga.
“Eggplant posted price cuts of P10 per kilo to P20 per kilo in eight trading centers. In contrast, price rose by P20 per kilo in Butuan City and by P40 per kilo in Zamboanga City,” the report read.
PSA data revealed that the price of native pechay was down in seven trading centers. Price cuts ranged from P5 per kilo in Tuguegarao and Zamboanga cities to P40 per kilo in Iloilo City.
The price of white potato declined by P5 per kilo in the cities of San Fernando, Tuguegarao, Cebu and Zamboanga and by P10 per kilo in Butuan and Cotabato.
PSA data also showed that the price of rice exhibited various movements for the week ending January 23.
The price of regular milled rice was P0.50 per kilo lower in Tuguegarao, but it rose by P1 per kilo in Zamboanga City.
“The price of regular milled rice dropped in four trading centers; price cuts ranged from P0.50 per kilo in Tuguegarao City to P2 per kilo in Cabanatuan and Cotabato cities,” the report read.
As for meat and poultry, the PSA said the prices of beef with bones and pork liempo retained their previous week’s levels. Poultry products, however, showed mixed price patterns.
“Price increments of P10 per kilo of lean beef and lean pork were posted in San Fernando City. Prices of beef with bones and pork liempo remained unchanged in all trading centers,” the report read.
The PSA said the price of dressed chicken gained by P10 per kilo in Iloilo City. A P5-per-kilo price cut was observed in Cabanatuan and Cotabato.
For chicken egg, a price hike of P0.25 per piece was recorded in Cagayan de Oro City. But it was down by P0.25 per piece in Zamboanga City and by P0.10 per piece in Cotabato City.
