TWO of the largest television networks in the Philippines claimed on Tuesday that they both led the ratings war last month, with one asserting its top position in Metro Manila and the other in the whole country.
Citing data from Kantar Media, ABS-CBN Corp. said it remained undisputed in national TV viewership in July with an average national audience share of 47 percent, 16 points higher than GMA Network Inc.’s 31 percent.
The Lopez-led network also maintained its supremacy in the prime-time block after scoring an average audience share of 53 percent, while GMA ended July with 26 percent.
The prime-time block is the most important part of the day when most Filipinos watch TV and advertisers put a larger chunk of their investment in to reach more consumers effectively.
In a separate statement, GMA claimed it led the ratings game in Urban Luzon and Mega Manila last month. Citing data from Nielsen TV Audience Measurement, the Gozon-led network said it ended competition in Urban Luzon with a 35.7-percent total day household audience share, ahead of ABS-CBN’s 33.3 percent.
In Mega Manila, GMA led across all dayparts with 37.4 percent, besting ABS-CBN’s 29.7 percent by 7.7 points.
Urban Luzon and Mega Manila represent 77 percent and 59 percent, respectively, of all urban TV households in the country.
GMA subscribes to the Nielsen TV Audience Measurement service, while ABS-CBN is the lone local major TV network that subscribes to Kantar Media, formerly known as TNS.
Kantar Media uses a nationwide panel of 2,609 urban and rural homes that represent 100 percent of the total Philippine TV viewing population, while GMA’s ratings data supplier AGB Nielsen monitors 1,980 homes based in urban areas.
