The Varsitarian, the 88-year-old official student publication of the University of Santo Tomas (UST), will hold a three-day conference on new trends and issues in the media landscape.
Called “Inkblots”, the conference to be held from December 19 to 21 at the Thomas Aquinas Research Complex Auditorium, UST, España, Manila, is on its 18th year.
Inkblots is the annual gathering of campus journalists, journalism and communication enthusiasts and media practitioners. This year’s conference will tackle the role of campus press as an engine of democracy.
“It will discuss how campus journalists, like mainstream media, can contribute to the national discourse and promote good governance,” a statement by The Varsitarian said. It added that speakers will share their expertise through sessions in news writing, feature writing, sports writing and photojournalism, among many others. A fee of P1,600 is required for participation. Inquiries on the conference can be coursed through Angela Coloma (0977-6498442), Winona Sadia (0916-7917582) or The Varsitarian office at 406-1611, local 8235. The conference is endorsed by the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) in accordance with the pertinent provisions of Republic Act 7722, otherwise known as the Higher Education Act of 1994, according to a CHEd memorandum issued in November.
