I have a younger colleague who prefers to get her vitamins from whole foods instead of drinking them in capsule or tablet form.
Then there is my mother, who takes about eight supplements and vitamins every morning, and is hale and hearty at 78 years old.
Before anything else, let me tell you about my mother. She can still ride a bus and the MRT, although we’ve forbidden her to do so. She loves going to the mall and dining with her friends. She makes the best but difficult-to-cook dishes, such as kare-kare, paella and dinuguan. She walks long distances and does light exercises.
At breakfast, we jokingly call her a “drug dependent” because she takes so many tablets and capsules. But there’s no arguing with the fact that she is healthy because she makes the right decisions.
I mention these two schools of thought because a study conducted by Watsons Insights on Shoppers Experience, the research division of health and beauty retailer A.S. Watson Group, showed that 66 percent of Filipinos believe they have adequate knowledge on health. However, 57 percent of the respondents admitted they don’t exercise regularly.
Many Filipinos are interested in the journey to good health and wellness. But there are so many things that get in their way of staying healthy. Time, traffic, work, family life and even household chores are some of the factors.
Based on this study, Watsons, the leading health and beauty chain in the country, launched the #GetActive campaign to inspire Filipinos to be healthy through small, everyday active changes in their routine.
“The Watsons #GetActive campaign is part of our continuous efforts to improve the lives and health of Filipinos,” Watsons Marketing Director Viki Encarnacion said.
Watsons recognizes the importance of a holistic approach to health. Aside from healthy diet and exercise, taking vitamins is also important. These health supplements bridge the nutrient gap people don’t get in their regular diet and lifestyle. It can also help prevent illnesses.
There are different types of vitamins available. These are formulated to fulfill different nutritional needs. Some of them are:
- Vitamin A for immunity, vision and healthy skin;
- Vitamin B complex for energy production;
- Vitamin C for immunity and protection against diseases; and
- Vitamin E for cell damage repair or prevention and for healthy skin.
At Watsons, there are different brands and products available to fulfill every individual’s nutritional needs depending on age, gender and preferred form—such as Enervon, Conzace, Ceelin, Revicon, Myra E, Centrum, Stresstabs, Berocca, Rogin E, Fern C and Watsons Generics. Berocca is something I can’t live without.
To further encourage its shoppers, Watsons is offering up to 20-percent off on select vitamins for a limited time. Moreover, it’s giving customers a chance to win trips to Bali, Guam or Sydney, or an iPhone 7 or iPad for a minimum P500 single-receipt purchase of select vitamins and health products. A partnership with Hutchgo.com and Philippine Airlines, the promo runs until June 28, and is exclusive to SM Advantage, SM Prestige, PRiMO and BDO Rewards Card holders.
Two wellness products available at Watsons are Bargn Pharmaceuticals’ CosmoSkin Grapeseed Extract (GSE) and FiberMaxx Daily Fiber Supplement.
Bargn is at the forefront of innovation in the health and wellness industry with a range of products that address different needs, including cosmeceuticals, nutraceuticals, vitamins, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. Established in 2006 by Nino Bautista and John Redentor Gatus Jr., Bargn has a strong presence in 10 other countries.
With CosmoSkin GSE, Bargn provides a definitive solution to a common skin problem called melasma, the condition that creates dark patches of skin usually found on the upper cheek, nose, lips, upper lip and forehead. Melasma affects almost 90 percent of women all over the world. Melasma is something that’s part of growing old. The condition is aggravated by sun exposure. Women who live active, outdoorsy lifestyles are more likely to produce more dark pigments than others.
Miss Universe 2013 3rd runner-up Ariella Arida swims and runs regularly. She’s also very busy with work. Apart from her continuous hosting stints in Bb. Pilipinas’ much-talked about coronation nights; acting jobs in various roles on a handful of GMA shows, such as Juan Happy Love Story and Dear Uge, plus her duties as one of Willie Revillame’s cohosts on the afternoon game show Wowowin, along with appearances on ABS-CBN’s top-rating programs, such as Minute To Win It and Kapamilya Deal or No Deal, the 28-year-old Arida loves to run and swim regularly as part of her fitness regimen.
“Keeping fit is very important to me. With the schedule I keep, running and swimming help me to have a balanced life. But, of course, these activities also take a toll on my skin. No one is immune to sun exposure, and sunscreen alone is not enough. That’s why I’m so happy to have found CosmoSkin Grapeseed Extract,” she said.
For Arida, it’s not just about having a fairer complexion but preventing melasma and having that elusive “lit from within” glow, minus the aid of cosmetics.
Good health is as important to Bargn in its continued pursuit of health and wellness. FiberMaxx Daily Fiber Supplement was created to promote good digestive health, assist in lowering cholesterol and fats, and help maintain healthy sugar-levels. FiberMaxx is the perfect supplement for those who are actively perfecting their form and figure, as it provides whole body health with proper diet and regular exercise.
FiberMaxx is the ideal workout companion as it helps fitness buffs stay nourished while doing their fitness routines.
