At the helm of the new technology and superior agents and or solutions in the market today, Dr. Kyla Talens of Skin Philosophie Medical Aesthetic and Lifestyle Solutions, which is on the third floor of The Fort Strip, Bonifacio Global City in Taguig, still believes in the basic essentials of taking care of the skin—clean, tone, moisturize and, of course, live a healthy lifestyle.
We sat down with her to again talk about the importance of taking care of the skin, especially acne-prone skin. She tells us that even at the advent of the technology or the seemingly instant cures abundant in the market today, the century-old routine of wash, tone and moisturize is still the best in any type of skin.
Keeping a daily beauty regimen is very important, but sometimes even if you follow your beauty routines, breakouts, acne and other skin problems can’t be prevented. Talens shares some ways and treatments to address these problems.
Acne and Laser Treatment
It is important to know how your doctor will treat your acne and the scars that it leaves behind on your face. A relationship with your dermatologist may help very seriously, but it also pays to ask the steps that should be taken when undergoing an acne treatment. Talens shares how she usually treats acne and how laser helps provide a more permanent solution.
Treat first the root of the problem.
Regular exfoliation helps renew the skin surface and gets rid of the blackheads and whiteheads. Application of a cure-all topical product will not help but worsen the present condition of acne.
“I would put them on an antiacne regimen first, until breakouts are no longer an issue, and then I can do laser treatment or skin resurfacing for the open pores and the acne scars…normally, I recommend six to 10 sessions for acne scars, but a lot of my patients respond already to six session,” Talens shared.
Step 2. Laser away.
When acne has already been dealt with, laser treatment or skin resurfacing can help to achieve a more favorable result. It prevents acne from recurring on the face. Leaving the scars flat and sometimes thinly traceable.
But be very careful because over use of laser can burn the skin—if you use energies that are too high or inappropriate machine for the wrong skin type.
Step 3. Maintain, maintain, maintain
When the texture of the desired skin is achieved, the laser resurfacing treatments can be limited already. The key is how to maintain what the laser treatment has already done.
“The maintenance doesn’t necessarily require laser. You can already do several treatments, like anti acne treatments, regular exfoliation, peels, etc,” Talens says.
Trend or Not? Be assured that lasers are here to stay but so is the olden ways. According to Talens, technology and self-awareness being conscious of how your body answers to its condition and doing something about it are keys to better skin condition.
“When it comes to treating acne, the principles are basically the same, here at Skin Philosophie we try to fit the treatments to the lifestyle of the patient. For example, most men are not comfortable in putting on sunblock, “Talens adds.
To achieve successful results, state-of-the-art devices and top-notch products are not the only prerequisites, but also having a doctor who is well-versed in safety parameters and has an eye for symmetry and proportion. And most of all, it is important to have a sincere interest in the well-being of the patient, such that the treatments administered are highly customized to fit the patient’s priorities, lifestyle and resources.
