FORD Philippines recently concluded a grand presentation for the all-new Mustang. The “rock n’ roll”-themed event stimulated the audience’s anticipation as, one by one, well preserved and restored classics were showcased, starting from the first-generation trims from 1965 and 1969 followed by the 1996 GT and then on to the fifth-generation 2012 model. The excitement rose when two variants from the latest generation occupied center stage.
“The all-new Mustang represents the very best of Ford and its arrival marks the latest chapter of the iconic muscle car’s rich legacy, crafted with a more contemporary look and feel. With a history spanning more than 50 years, this iconic car is at the heart and soul of Ford and we are very excited to bring the sixth-generation Mustang to the Philippines,” said Kay Hart, managing director, Ford Philippines.
Unmistakably, the streamlined and sleek design embodies the established character of the brand. The fascia radiates from the signature shark-bite outline and trapezoidal grille, complementing the aggressive looking headlamps and refined bumper chin. Enhanced aerodynamics, contours paired with the traditional long sculpted hood and short rear deck, clearly denotes the pony manifestation. At the rear are tri-bar (three-dimensional) tail lamps with the rear diffuser and dual polished exhaust tips. The 19-inch aluminum wheels with 255/40 tires supplement the hardline and energetic stance.
There are two engine options for the all-new Mustang that deliver high-performance. Powering the GT Premium is the latest edition 5.0-liter V8 engine with twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT) generating 441 ps of muscle and a staggering 542 N-m of torque. Owing to the upgraded valve train and cylinder heads, this engine is now the most powerful V8 in GT history. With the new intake manifold, it improves low-speed breathing for better fuel economy, idle stability and emissions. On the other hand, the Ecoboost Premium variant is propelled by the 2.3-liter four-cylinder turbocharged (twin-scroll) engine with direct injection and variable valve timing producing an impressive 314 ps of power and 434 N-m of torque. Both engines are coupled to a six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission with dual-clutch for swifter shifting and smooth delivery.
Ford crafted an aviation-inspired layout for the cockpit with evident craftsmanship and improved ergonomics. The large and vibrant analog gauges sit perfectly visible through the three-spoke, leather wrapped steering wheel with embedded controls and paddle shifters. Equipped with keyless entry and push-button ignition switch located in the bottom area of the center console. Toggle switches allow the driver to select the drive modes (normal, sport +, track and snow/wet) and customized steering feedback (standard, sport and comfort). Sporty leather-trimmed seats with six-way control and power lumbar support are standard for the GT version, while the Ecoboost version comes with Recaro Ebony Sport leather seats with four-way manual controls. As a fitting touch, there’s an aluminum plate mounted in the passenger dashboard that serves as a reminder of the 50-year existence of the Mustang.
This pony is endowed with the new front double-ball-joint front MacPherson strut and integral-link independent rear suspension. In addition, components such as springs, dampers and bushings were tuned and customized to provide superior handling execution.
“When you see a Mustang drive by on the road, you see a legend in motion. From its exterior and interior features, the all-new Mustang is inspired by a unique and iconic design that has been reinvented for the contemporary world,” said Minnie Valencia-Bustamante, vice president for marketing and sales, Ford Philippines.
The 5.0-liter V8 GT is offered at P2.999 million with six available colors: Race Red, Oxford White, Magnetic Metallic, Black, Triple Yellow Tri-coat and Competition Orange.
