HAIL the new king! Jason Day, the Fil–Australian, is the man of the hour in golf! Last week he routed the field by six shots, including world’s No. 1 Jordan Spieth, who failed to make the cut in the Baclay’s Open.
After the Barclays, and since Rory McIlroy had also a so-so performance, Day looms to make it as the world’s top golfer soon.
We are proud of you Jason! Mabuhay ka and all your mom’s kababayan are rooting for your continued success!
Sorry for this emotional outburst on behalf of Jason Day because Day is Pinoy! So back now to our rules business.
During the Barclays were rules issues on Spieth and Jimmy Walker.
Spieth had accidentally stepped on his ball during ball-search. It was shown on television. Spieth was penalized under Rule 18-2a (i) because he caused the ball to move by accidentally stepping on it.
Although it was accidental, the situation did not fall under the circumstances where a player is not penalized under Rule 18-2a (ii).
So, guys, please be careful when searching for your ball ‘’through the green’’ (whole area of the course except the teeing ground and putting green of the hole being played and all hazards on the course).
Remember the 10-second rule when a player’s ball stops on the lip of a hole?
It happened to Jimmy Walker in the first round of Barclays. His ball stopped on the hole’s lip, only to fall four seconds later.
It was considered holed as confirmed in the TV replay, when commentators started counting and the ball did fall after the count of 4. The rule allows 10 seconds.
TEED BITS Kudos to Doy Liwag, the brother-in-law of the ‘’big man,’’ Vic Vic Villavicencio, for the smooth running of the 38th Triple V Media and Tito Eduque Memorial Golf at Aguinaldo for the past several years now. Also to Doy’s tournament assistants from Villamor Golf Club.
Praise God no rain this time! Congrats to the Media Golfers, who were outnumbered but not outfought by Vic Vic’s Kamayan players. Media won by a measly two points in the event where the best 10 net scores count. One Kamayan player tried to change his handicap but Doy stood his ground, blocking the move that could have changed the result of the tournament…Congrats (balato please?) to Teddyvic Melendres of Inquirer and Rey Bancod of Tempo for sharing the P38,000 main raffle for media golfers.
Teddyvic and Rey had agreed to split the amount before Teddyvic’s name was picked by Vic Vic Villavicencio. Sporting an ear-to-ear grin, Rey B said: ‘’I also won!’’ So guys, see you next year and be ready to win P39,000!
