THE biggest semiconductor and electronics manufacturer in the country, Texas Instruments (TI) Philippines, is set to infuse $10 million for the expansion of its facilities in Clark Freeport.
This was announced by Mohammad Yunus, president and managing director of TI Philippines during the groundbreaking ceremonies last Thursday of the expansion of its product-distribution center in Clark.
“The groundbreaking of the new facility is a celebration of what government agencies and industry can achieve together, not only for the success of the corporate enterprise but also for the success of the country,” said Yunus in a media statement.
“Our current product-distribution center is overflowing; we do not have enough space to do an efficient job on distributing,” Yunus said on embarking on the expansion. “[The product distribution center] is designed to be a state-of-the-art storage retrieval system with high levels of automation. It is designed to be the highest best workplace ergonomics.”
With the expansion, TI can increase its production capacity to 2 billion units quarterly. “We are currently looking on the 2 billion units, which could be a new record for any Texas Instrument sites anywhere in the world,” Yunus said.
Yunus said that last quarter TI shipped 1.5 billion semiconductor units. This quarter, the production will increase to about 1.9 billion semiconductor units.
TI has an investment of $1 billion for its manufacturing facilities in Clark.
In the same engagement, Philippine Economic Zone Authority Director General Lilia De Lima, cited Clark Development Corp. (CDC) President Arthur P. Tugade for making this Freeport as one of the country’s strong investment and promotions destinations.
The top executive of Philippine Export Zone Authority (Peza) hopes for a strong partnership of CDC and Peza to continue in enticing business leaders in locating Clark and Peza-controlled areas.
As of June 2015, the actual employment in Clark Freeport Zone was recorded at close to 80,000 from the 781 registered enterprises, including some government agencies.
