Sandino Martin likes playing complicated characters. In the few years that he’s been in the acting business, he has given life to a confused teenager, a miner, a cadet, a nurse, a closet paramour and a troubled dog shooter.
Some of these roles have even given him recognition. He bagged the 2014 Cinema One best actor plum for Esprit de Crops. He was declared best actor at the 2016 World Premiere Festival for Dog Shooter. He’s had some notable roles in theater, and a few exposures on the local TV. The new year is shaping up to be a good year for Martin by way of his biggest TV role, a young priest, in the new TV series My Dear Heart from Dreamscape and ABS-CBN.
“I’m so excited with this new show and I always look forward to every new work day. It’s my first time to play a priest on TV and film, and there are so many new learnings. I hope this exposure will open bigger doors for me,” he said.
Martin acts alongside Rio Locsin, Coney Reyes, Zanjoe Marudo, Bela Padilla and child-star discovery Nayomi Reyes.
“[The year] 2017 will be a good year. It’s teeming with a lot of promise and potential. My Dear Heart is one good start,” Martin added.
NEWBIE ON THE ACTING BLOCK
THE name April Tanhueco is already popular in runway and commercial modeling. She has been strutted her stuff for countless brands and products, and is a favorite among designers, stylists, makeup experts and photographers.
“I’m easy to work with. Cowboy ako and what you see is what you get. I also laugh a lot and am basically a very jolly woman,” she told us when we asked about her traits. She added that she also likes to experiment with her looks and isn’t afraid to take risks and go on adventures.
There were a few occasions in the past when the possibility of acting for film or TV beckoned, but Tanhueco said she’s not ready. “I like to take small, baby steps when it comes to major, life-changing decisions. Like when I started to seriously consider modeling as a career, I took things one step at a time.”
Over the weekend, Tanhueco took on an offbeat role in an episode of Karelasyon on GMA and she enjoyed her experience. “I think I’m starting to enjoy preparing for interesting roles and acting in front of the cameras. I know I have a lot to learn, but I think I’m slowly getting the hang of it.”
Not many are aware Tanhueco is also a businesswoman. She is a co-owner of the newly opened Prettiserie Salon in the Tomas Morato area in Quezon City. “A salon business is one that I like because it makes our clients feel happy and beautiful. And I believe we all have to love ourselves and pamper ourselves regularly, especially given the kind and level of stress we have nowadays.”
On her personal life, Tanhueco shared that she has a boyfriend for three years now. The lucky guy is a board member of a province in the Visayas and also the brother to a beautiful celebrity-politician. “I’m very fortunate to have his love, understanding, patience and support. He always makes me feel like a natural woman, “ she said, blushing.
Tanhueco is thinking if she should adapt a screen name. “Not that I don’t love my family name, because I am proud of it. But I’ve encountered a lot of situations in the past where my surname wasn’t spelled correctly when clients booked my flights or when I get my check payments; and there were many instances when people tell me they have a hard time pronouncing it.”
With her physical features, wonderful personality and her natural acting skills, a screen name shouldn’t be a major issue at this time. Suggestions, anyone?
