TCL Philippines Inc., the subsidiary of Chinese television manufacturer TCL Corp., expressed optimism it can get a fair share of the TV set market currently dominated by Korean and Japanese brands. TCL Sun Inc. CEO Mars Ma said there are lots of opportunities for brands, such as TCL, as it is in the position to offer what he said is “affordable and quality” TV sets.
The demand for light emitting diode (LED) TVs is slowly gearing toward big-sized TVs and Smart TVs. In 2013 32-inch TVs accumulated 48 percent of the market share and only 45 percent in 2014, according to Ma.
Meanwhile, big-sized TVs along with Smart TVs are exhibiting remarkable improvements in terms of market standing, Ma said in a news briefing in Parañaque City. From 24 percent, big-sized TV share rose to 29 percent in 2014, he added. Meanwhile, Smart TV share rose from 16 percent to 19 percent in 2014. “It is evident from these figures that our market is showing favorable response with regards to the shift toward big-sized TVs and Smart TVs,” Ma said. “We are also proud to announce that in 2014, TCL’s annual sales volume increased by 10.44 percent, in which a total of more than 130,000 units were sold amounting to P28.5 billion.”
“In line with this, we were able to successfully surpass our benchmark brand and ranked fourth in the Philippine TV market industry,” he said.During the event, TCL introduced the Quantum Dot TV H9700, Curved 4K UHD TV H8800, and 4K UHD E6800, The new Quantum Dot display technology, provided by TCL, is able to depict more of the RGB spectrum, from vivid colors to subtle tones. This provides a greatly enhanced picture experience for viewers, which is similar to OLED, yet at a price that maintains a level of affordability. TCL has launched the 55-inch 4K UHD, which uses “quantum dot” technology. This technology, according to Ma, incorporates a film of tiny light-emitting crystals into regular liquid crystal displays (LCD), offering “improved picture quality” at a fraction of the price of organic light-emitting diodes (OLED). The TV also features cutting-edge 30W Harman/Kardon-brand speakers.
TCL also rolled out the new Curved 4K UHD TVs (H8800) with size ranges of 65 inches and 55 inches. The series boasts of the largest curvature ever of 4000R, innovative wide color gamut technology for curved surfaces (WCG technology can enhance the color gamut up to 96 percent by utilizing the pure white backlight, which is better than normal LED panel), the 4K curved surface technology and speakers to provide an unparalleled immersive experience in curvature, color, definition and sound. In addition to the H8800 series and sharing the same features and sizes apart from a curved screen, the versatile E6800 series will feature a 360-degree revolving stand, allowing viewers to move the picture to perfectly meet their eye line, without having to move the whole TV. Additionally, TCL’s vertically integrated structure—its CSOT Panel Factory in Shenzhen is the biggest LCD panel factory in China—provides benefits for consumers. As the only manufacturer in China that can make its own panels, this ensures consumers get a high quality product for the best available price.
