ALDIN AYO might not be around in his first Ateneo-De La Salle match up on Sunday.
The Green Archers’ head coach is facing a one-game suspension for his outburst in their game against University of the East (UE) on Wednesday.
University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Commissioner lawyer Rebo Saguisag has yet to release the league’s decision on the Ayo case, which, under league rules, merit an automatic one-game suspension.
Ayo was ejected in the second quarter of De La Salle’s 84-78 win over the Red Warriors after attempting to put eyeglasses on referee Eric Viray after a noncall on Green Archers guard Thomas Torres with one minute left in the half.
He was given two technical fouls that resulted to his ejection.
Ayo refused to comment on his impending suspension saying it “could do harm than good” for De La Salle.
The school’s representative to the board Edwin Reyes also did not give any official statement on the issue and said De La Salle will just wait for Saguisag’s decision before making their next move.
The Green Archers are expected to appeal Ayo’s suspension and request that it be downgraded to a technical foul to allow Ayo to coach against Ateneo on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Assistant Coach Louie Gonzales took over from Ayo and said the team is ready with or without their head coach.
