At least 61 percent of Filipinos do not include exercise in their daily routines, which results to poor health and fitness, according to a study commissioned by Sun Life of Canada (Philippines), Inc. (Sun Life).
Among Asian countries included in the Sun Life Financial Asia Health Index, surveyed online by multinational firm Ipsos Group SA from August 17 to 26 last year, the Philippines topped the list where people’s health and wellness is on a declining rate due to lack of fitness activities in their daily routine.
From a survey base of 3,986 Asian respondents with ages ranging from 25 to 60 years old, 30 percent of middle-class Filipinos said their health and wellness is declining.
The barriers hindering the uptake in their fitness, according to the survey, include lack of time due to work, 57 percent; 47 percent said they lacked motivation and are distracted with modern life; 45 percent attributed the decline to fitness being costly; while 36 percent said there were little available venues for exercise.
The survey also showed that 60 percent of the respondents from Asia are happy with their overall health, but this saw a decline compared to the 65-percent result in 2015.
Filipinos surveyed garnered 89 percent in terms of having a positive outlook on their overall health.
Sun Life President and CEO Rizalina G. Mantaring said the company is committed to help Filipinos achieve their health goals, and that it continuously boosts its wellness products and services to cater to the health needs of Filipinos.
“Sun Life remains committed to helping Filipinos face a brighter tomorrow by being in the
best of health.
The results of the Asia Health Index reiterate the need to promote a healthier lifestyle, and Sun Life wants to be the Filipinos’ partner in pursuing this journey,” Mantaring said.
The insurance firm has introduced its Sun Fit and Well and GoWell products to better cater to the health and wellness needs of Filipinos. Both the wellness products offer comprehensive life and health protection that is readily available even for children.
