HOMEGROWN gadget maker Starmobile is sustaining its “strong No. 3” market position with the introduction of two of the most innovative smartphones ever launched by a local brand to date.
Product Marketing Manager Elijah Mendoza told the BusinessMirror that Starmobile is ranked the third top-selling Filipino cellphone brand as per the global mobile sample and research provider called On Device.
He said it is the fastest local brand to have already sold more than 1 million units since inception in 2011.
Combining all the domestic players comprising the entire smartphone industry with an estimated sales value of P5 billion per month, he said Starmobile holds 20 percent and 5 percent with the addition of global brands.
“We’re very happy to be the first one to have done it under four years. We’re proud to say that we are growing up, and we’re continuously going up high,” Mendoza said.
With the unveiling of its mid-range UP Snap and high-end KNIGHT X smartphones, the executive said they want to sustain their leading market position and reputation as a pioneer in new technology.
The former is the first Pinoy Android smartphone with an 8 megapixel UltraPixel camera that features light sensors, which have larger-than-average pixels resulting in less noise, more detail, and crisper colors.
Image quality is further improved with the help of the f2.0 wide aperture lens that allows more light to reach the UltraPixel sensor.
Starmobile Vice Chairman and Head of Product Development Michael Chen said the UP Snap is fit for users who are fond of taking photos.
“This is Starmobile’s best mid-range camera phone to date and we are thrilled to be the first to offer UltraPixel technology,” he said.
Considered as the most advanced local phone in existence, the latter boasts of the latest Super Octa Core processor coupled with 3 gigabyte of RAM (Random Access Memory).
It sports multimode 4G LTE that can work across 15 frequencies around the globe, as well as Near Field Communication capabilities and Wi-Fi AC for the Internet of things.
“The KNIGHT X is the next step for us in our mission to deliver high-quality, yet still competitively-priced devices to Filipinos. This is truly a smartphone that is inspired by and is made for the next generation Pinoy,” Chen said.
Bullish on positive market response to such newly unveiled devices, Mendoza sees that UP Snap will further strengthen the growth of their mid-range smartphones that currently comprise up to 40 percent of their business.
Meanwhile, he expects the KNIGHT X to support their initiative of tapping the premium market, mainly the “Power Users” or those who are users of high-end international brands to switch to their equally advanced yet affordable Android phone.
