MARKING the 50th anniversary of the Asean this year, the Asean Foundation is collaborating with strategic partners to form new initiatives, initially with a competition for college students in the region.
Dubbed “Asean Data Science Explorers” (Asean DSE), this data analytics contest seeks to improve awareness and appreciation of the Asean community among the youth. Also, it will allow them to play a pivotal role in tackling today’s social issues facing the region and help create positive change for a better future.
With its theme “Today’s Youth for Tomorrow’s World”, Asean DSE is jointly organized with enterprise application software provider SAP.
By using the SAP BusinessObjects Cloud tool, participants are encouraged to deliver data-driven insights, which highlight issues in the region across the six UN Sustainable Development Goals. These are good health and well-being; quality education; gender equality; clean water and sanitation; decent work and economic growth; and sustainable cities and communities.
Also, this will work toward fulfilling the Asean Socio-Cultural Community Blueprint 2025 vision of creating a regional community that engages and benefits the people, and is inclusive, sustainable, resilient and dynamic.
The competition will be organized in all the 10 member-states of the Asean in October. The winners for each country will then go to the regional final that will take place in Jakarta, Indonesia, in November.
The registration portal (www.aseandse.org) is open until June 16. Details for the application are attached on the web site.
