TO be held on June 3, Monti will be sharing her expertise with Filipino opera singers through a master class at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Conservatory of Music.
The Opera Master Class, to be held at the Recital Hall 2 of the Albertuse Magnus Building, will have Monti sharing her musical insights with Filipino tenor Cloi Sugano and sopranos Camille Juanitez, Kinah Jorge, Ivette Salas and Maria Gereberne Lozada.
In a master class, an expert will give advice to highly advanced students on how to improve on their craft. The student then performs a song and the master gives advice on how to improve on the performance. Often, the master gives anecdotes about her own experiences and demonstrations on how the piece may be improved.
Monti is expected to also share her professional experiences and career highlights with the public.
At the same time, Monti will also launch the upcoming L’Opera on Wheels, which will feature shortened and tour versions of famous Italian operas as performed by leading Filipino singers.
L’Opera on Wheels will stage six shows in Manila, from September to December 2016, and will feature Italy’s most famous comic operas, including Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte and Giacomo Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi.
Opera features different art forms, including music, performance and language. Opera was born in Italy around the 1600s and spread throughout Europe during the Renaissance period.
Today Italian Opera plays a dominant role in the history of the form, with the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Only the best singers can perform at this prestigious theater, which is host to the world’s finest artists for the past 200 years.
Many of world’s finest singers have appeared at La Scala di Milano, including Monti. She joins the ranks of famous cellist Antonio Toscanini and soprano Renata Tebaldi.
Monti’s career traces back to her hometown in Milan, where she graduated at the top of her class at the School of Music in 1996. She later won several competitions in Italy and abroad, including first prize in the Altamura—Caruso International Voice Competition in Gibraltar.
In September 1997 she won the selection for the La Scala Singing Academy. Aside from performing at the La Scala di Milano, she has also held various concerts worldwide.
She debuted in the role of Violetta in La Traviata at Teatro la Fenice in Venice. She has worked with various conductors, including Gerd Albrecht, Rinaldo Alessandrini, Aldo Ceccato, Ottavio Dantone, Djasung Kakhidze, Riccardo Muti, Jeffrey Tate, Nello Santi, Robin Ticciati, Diego Matheuz, and Massimo Zanetti.
Societá Dante Aighieri Comitato di Manila advocates the appreciation of Italian culture through its language, translation and cultural programs.
