The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has released the top 500 nonindividual taxpayers for 2013, with Smart Communications and the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) at the top 2 spots.
The list dated March 6, said that Smart Communications paid P10.89 billion in income taxes in 2013, while Meralco paid P9.69 billion for the same year.
San Miguel Brewery Inc. came in third in the list of top corporate taxpayers, with P4.88 billion in income taxes paid in 2013.
Next are Nestlé Philippines Inc. (P4.81 billion); Chevron (P4.51 billion); Shell Philippines (4.48 billion); and Globe Telecom (P4 billion).
The rest of the top 10 corporate taxpayers are Philip Morris Fortune Tobacco Corp. Inc. (P3.42 billion); Chemwealth Inc. (P2.9 billion); and SM Prime Holdings (P2.78 billion).
Other corporate taxpayers in the top 20 are Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.; Metro Rail Transit Corp.; Land Bank of the Philippines; Emperador Distillers, Inc.; Unilever Philippines Inc.; Manila Water Co. Inc.; Holcim Philippines; Monde Nissin Corp.; Toyota Motor Philippines; and Ayala Land Inc.
Finance Secretary Cesar V. Purisima said that of the total tax collection by the BIR, collection from large taxpayers constitute around 64 percent.
Purisima said the said 64 percent, which amounts to around P778 billion out of the total collections by the BIR in 2013, comes from around 2,000 corporations classified as large taxpayers by the BIR.
