SKYCABLE Corp. is spending roughly P3 billion to expand its broadband facilities, as demand for data in the Philippines continues to grow. Aldrin M. Cerrado, who sits as the CFO at ABS-CBN Corp., said the subsidiary plans to strengthen its position as a broadband provider through a P3.3-billion investment.
“SkyCable’s broadband to the home and fiber to the curb costs around P3.3 billion,” he said in a chance interview. This, as the company saw a marked increase in subscriber base during the first three months of the year, said Ronaldo P. Valdueza, ABS-CBN’s Group CFO.
“Sky saw an 11-percent growth in revenues to P2.3 billion, driven by the continued increase in its broadband and DTH [direct-to-home] subscribers,” he said.
As of end-March, Sky had 672,000 cable subscribers, 161,000 DTH subscribers and 205,000 broadband subscribers.
“The strong growth in our broadband subscriber base, which has doubled in two years, should continue as we invest in expanding our network,” Valdueza said.
SkyCable is the first to introduce cable television to Filipinos in 1990. Since then, it has been a front-runner in technology and cable-TV content by being the first to design a highly customized viewing experience among subscribers, and offering the most number of HD channels.
Its properties now include Sky Broadband, Sky On Demand and Sky Direct, an affordable DTH satellite pay-TV service available nationwide.
