Public Works Secretary Rogelio L. Singson on Sunday labeled the ongoing rehabilitation of the 32-year-old Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 (Naia 1) as “well-done job” following an early morning inspection.
Singson made a tour of the facility, walking alone at the arrival concourse with his camera, taking shots of the “buckling resistance braces,” the steel trusses that will protect the old building from earthquakes.
“Matibay ang pagkagawa, at kayang protektahan ang lumang building against any disaster,” he told the media.
The upgrading and refurbishing of the Naia 1, costing P1.6 billion, will be finished on May 2015.
Manila Internaitonal Airport Authority Assistant General Manager Vicente Guerzon told reporters earlier that the renovation is now 40-percent complete.
Last week Transportation Secretary Joseph Emilio A. Abaya also inspected the Naia 1. He said the renovation had made the terminal look good, despite the delays encountered by the improvement project.
“It is such a big facility, you can
never pin down the final date of completion,” Abaya was quoted as saying.
The usually drab Naia 1 now sports colorful decoration, Christmas trees and plenty of colorful lights. A chorale group was invited to serenade incoming passengers singing Christmas songs and Filipino songs at the arrival concourse.
