SHAQ DE LOS SANTOS was dropped as head coach of the Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tamaraws and will be replaced by George Pascua.
FEU Athletics Director Mark Molina confirmed on Sunday afternoon that Delos Santos was relieved of his duties as coach “because of his desire to focus on the Petron Blaze Spikers” in the Philippine Superliga. Pascua, a multititled FEU men’s volleyball player and coach, was named as de los Santos’s replacement.
FEU tapped Pascua last year as team consultant of its high school team after he was sacked as men’s coach after Season 76. He currently handles Cignal also in the Superliga and coached the Spikers two titles in the league before De los Santos took over from him in the commercial team last year.
Molina clarified that the development was a “mutual agreement” between FEU and de los Santos.
“It was never an immediate decision, in fact we had all intentions in keeping the coaching staff. But every season we have exit interviews with everyone, and it was one of the conversations I had with Shaq, there was also a desire on his part to focus on his job with Petron. That’s not entirely the (reason), but it came up in our conversations,” Molina said.
