DE LA SALLE accepted the resignation of Juno Sauler and immediately created a committee to look for his replacement.
The Office of Sports Development (OSD) made the announcement after Sauler tendered his resignation on Tuesday, after he failed to bring the Green Archers to the Final Four of Season 78 University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) men’s basketball tournament.
The De La Salle community thanked Sauler for his three years of service to the school, which he highlighted with a title in Season 76, his rookie year. He replaced Gee Abanilla.
“The community extends its appreciation to Coach Juno for his years of dedicated service to the team,” the OSD statement to the De La Sallian community said.
“With his able leadership, he orchestrated the Green Archers’ outstanding performances that gave DLSU championship titles from the 76th season, the 2013 PCCL tournament and the 2014 Filoil tournament,” the statement added.
There were reports that Sauler told De La Salle management he would be stepping down right after the school’s heartbreaking loss to Far Eastern University that denied the Green Archers a playoff for the No. 4 spot.
This marks the first time since 2011 that the Green Archers missed the semifinals and Sauler’s exit would mean a new system for the Taft-based team next season—expected to be bannered by Jeron Teng and Ben Mbala.
This early, Siot Tanquingcen, Franz Pumaren or even Louie Alas have floated as possible replacement for Sauler.
