DAVAO CITY—A rural-science high school in Sarangani province in southern Mindanao inaugurated its own science laboratory and equipment worth P2 million in its bid to improve its performance in science competitions.
Sarangani Gov. Steve Chiongbian Solon personally inaugurated on December 9 the science laboratory given to Alabel National Science High School, the prime secondary institution in the province. Equipment include three sets of binocular microscope, one rotary evaporator and 42 laboratory stools powder-coated base and laminated top.
The science laboratory was constructed in a 110-square-meter room and the budget was taken from the 2014 Annual Investment Plan’s Sulong Karunungan of the provincial government, Solon said. Solon added that the Sulong Karunungan program “aims to enable high-school graduates to be admitted to college for a four-year course because it makes a world of difference if someone earns a college degree.”
“I consider you the spearhead school in Sarangani. In an arrow, a spearhead is the one that opens the opportunity for the rest of the arrows to pass through. That’s what you are,” Solon said.
He said he would expect the school to show excellent performance, as he complimented it “for consistently raising the standard of education.”
Ariel Lalisan, the school’s Physics laboratory in charge, said the school administration would “share their acquired learning and knowledge with other schools in the province” as the school’s “best response to a blessing.”
Principal Norma Rendon also joined Solon in inaugurating the science laboratory of the school, popularly called in the province as AlSci.
Vice Gov. Jinkee Pacquiao and her husband, Rep. Manny Pacquiao, and the provincial board members also attended the inauguration.
