Richard Gutierrez is one of the most popular actors of his generation. When ABS-CBN had Piolo, Jericho and John Lloyd as their male frontrunners, GMA had Richard. At one point, he tried carrying the weight of GMA all by his lonesome, as Dingdong Dantes at the time was between transitioning from a teen idol to a more mature and sexy heartthrob, and there was a dearth of leading men in GMA.
Richard had a string of hits on GMA, which should be no surprise, as he’s one good-looking male specimen. But synonymous to Richard is controversy, and he has faced a number of them. Google his name regarding scandals and a whole array will pop up, from his love life to a number of cases filed by or against him and his family.
Despite all the scandals, one thing’s for sure: Richard is one exciting actor.
I’m actually looking forward to watching him in his new home and former rival station, ABS-CBN. He has signed an exclusive contract with the network, and among his projects are a movie with his former onscreen GMA partner Angel Locsin and Angelica Panganiban, and the upcoming series La Luna Sangre.
“I’ve always been curious how it is to work in ABS-CBN. I only hear great things about this network. Finally, now I’m here, I’m excited to have been given the opportunity to work here,” Richard said during the contract-signing held recently with ABS-CBN COO for Broadcast Cory Vidanes, Star Creatives COO Malou Santos, Finance Head for Broadcast and News and Current Affairs Cat Lopez and talent manager Annabelle Rama.
In La Luna Sangre, Richard will play the role of Sandrino, the supreme vampire and the long lost son of Magnus (Jake Roxas). What will be his connection to the lives of Mateo (John Lloyd Cruz), Lia (Angel Locsin) and Malia (Kathryn Bernardo)?
La Luna Sangre is the third installment of the hit fantasy franchise, after Lobo and Imortal, both produced by Star Creatives.
This is such refreshing news, not only for Richard, but for his family as well, who stood by him through his most difficult times, which we hope are truly over. He’s been through hell and back, and in purgatory and back again.
Today Richard claims he isn’t perfect, but he’s happy. He’s looking good and fabulous, in fact, since the last time we saw each other years ago (so long ago that I thought I had to remind him who I was, but he greeted me like as if I were his long lost lover). When I saw him at the press conference of La Luna Sangre, his smile was exuberant, and he couldn’t hide his excitement in joining ABS-CBN. He looked dapper too in his Gucci duds, and looked every inch a movie star.
I’m glad that Richard is now enjoying a new lease in life. We, in fact, should be inspired by him. We may stumble many times along the way, but it is our power to stand up after each fall that makes all the difference.
All the best, Chard.
