SAN BEDA and University of Perpetual Help try to keep their Final Four hopes alive when they clash with Mapua and Jose Rizal University (JRU), respectively, today in the 92nd National Collegiate Athletic Association women’s volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan City.
The Red Spikers, currently tied with the Lyceum of the Philippines University Lady Pirates at No. 4 with a 5-3 (win-loss) record, face off with the Lady Robins at 10:30 a.m., eyeing nothing less than a victory that will clinch them at least a playoff for a spot in the Final Four.
The Lady Altas, who are currently at No. 6 with a 4-3 card, tangle with the Lady Bombers at 12 noon, seeking a win that will keep them in the hunt for the next round.
Perpetual Help is aiming to sweep its last two assignments, including one against Arellano University, which is at No. 2 with a 7-1 mark, in the final elimination-round play date on January 25.
But Perpetual Help Coach Sammy Acaylar said they would need to focus first on JRU, which has nothing to lose and everything to gain.
“We have to take care of JRU first before we think of anything else,” Acaylar said.
JRU and Mapua are already eliminated with 3-5 and 0-8 records, respectively.
In men’s action, defending champion University of Perpetual Help (6-1) battles JRU (1-7) at 1:30 p.m., while San Beda (6-2) tackles Mapua (5-3) earlier in the day at 9 a.m.
