JOINT second-placers Pocari Sweat and Hair Fairy-Air Force try to move closer to the semifinal round when they take on separate foes today in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.
Both teams will try to improve on their 3-1 won-lost records, with the Jet Spikers facing the Power Smashers at 4 p.m. and the Lady Warriors facing Akari-Adamson at 6:30 p.m.
Victories would guarantee Pocari and Air Force at least a playoff for the semifinals.
The two teams had contrasting outings last week.
Air Force won its second straight game after surviving BaliPure in five sets, 23 -25, 25-21, 25-19, 18-25, 15-11. Defending champion Pocari Sweat, on the other hand, absorbed its first defeat after a 4-0 start at the hands of Creamline, 25-15, 17-25, 25-19, 25-19.
Myla Pablo, ranked second in the Most Valuable Player race, stressed that her team will bounce back and sweep their remaining games to make it in the semifinals.
“We want to sweep our last three games for another Final Four appearance and we are preparing for that,” Pablo said. “But we cannot count Adamson out because they have a lot of new talented players.”
Adamson and the Power Smashers are teetering toward the semifinals. The Lady Falcons hold a 1-3 record, while the Power Smashers are 1-4 and are on the brink of elimination.
