THE Philippine Nuclear Research Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (PNRI-DOST) will hold its 42nd Atomic Energy Week Celebration from December 8 to 12 at the PNRI headquarters on Commonwealth Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City.
The opening program on December 8 will start with the flag-raising ceremony at 8:30 a.m. and a wreath laying at the monument of Brig. Gen. Florencio Medina, considered as the Father of Atomic Energy in the Philippines, by the family of his son, Dr. and Florencio Isagani Medina III, and PNRI Director Dr. Alumanda de la Rosa and senior PNRI staff.
Medina was the first commissioner of then-Philippine Atomic Energy Commission, now PNRI. A scientist, he became chairman of the National Science Development Board in 1970.
A thanksgiving Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Arlo Bernardo Yap, SVD.
Science Secretary Mario G. Montejo will give an inspirational message, while Cavite’s First District Rep. Gerald Abaya will deliver the keynote address.
Abaya and Montejo will lead the opening of exhibits.
They will also lead the inauguration of the Electron Beam Facility and the turnover of the Environmental Radiation Monitor.
