THE Pasig-based data center of the information and communications technology arm of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) has been certified as the first facility in the country with Controlcase’s the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS) Version 3.1 certification.
The PCI-DSS is a stringent set of standards and protocols that protect cardholder data from credit-card fraud. Controlcase audited, assessed and certified Vitro Pasig’s physical space, data storage and security profiles according to the international standard’s established guidelines.
The flagship of the Vitro Network of Data Centers, Vitro Pasig scores another milestone in meeting global standards for quality and compliance. With this latest certification, companies are assured that their information-technology infrastructure hosted within the data center can enable safe and secure financial transactions.
“Credit-card transactions represent an essential and sizable volume of business for the banking and financial industry, as well as e-commerce players. PCI-DSS assures companies that they may confidently and securely host data, platforms and applications in Vitro,” PLDT First Vice President Juan Victor I. Hernandez said.
He said this will also serve organizations who have customers that require PCI-compliant local facilities.
“As more businesses make the journey to e-commerce and online transactions, PCI-DSS compliance becomes absolutely crucial to guard against growing cybercrime and online fraud incidents,” ePLDT Group COO Nerisse S. Ramos.
PLDT Executive Vice President Eric R. Alberto said the certification lays the groundwork for greater e-commerce adoption in the Philippines.
“This new security standard assures secure online transactions for companies and their customers,” he said.
