IT takes four episodes before Filipino viewers get hooked into shows via Netflix, executives of the Philippine operation of the eponymous firm said.
“We found that viewers do not base their decision to finish a series on the first episode alone,” a statement from the Philippine office of the Scotts Valley, California-based firm said. “On average, it took four episodes for Filipinos to get hooked on a show.”
NetFlix Philippines cited as example viewers of Marvel’s Daredevil and Jessica Jones shows. “Filipino viewers easily get hooked early on with shows that allow them to live vicariously through law-breaking characters featured in shows such as Narcos, Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, the company said. Citing 2016 data, NetFlix said some of the most popular shows for the year in the Philippines include “Orange is The New Black, Stranger Things, Narcos, House of Cards, The OA, Luke Cage, and The Crown, Designated Survivor.
According to the company, Filipinos tend to pair their TV binge with a movie right after, like other Netflix members around the world. “Fans who loved Stranger Things wanted more of the same great thrills and chose Super 8,’another sci-fi thriller set in the 1980s,” NetFlix said.
The Internet television network was launched in the Philippines and 130 markets around the world on January 6, 2016. The company said it will launch over a thousand hours of original content this year.
