Patty Laurel Filart is admired by other women because she is “simple” and doesn’t seem to need a lot of makeup to look good.
While she isn’t really high maintenance, Filart has certain beauty-related concerns to take care of.
For one, she has eczema, a condition caused by extremely dry skin.
“I’m very particular about the products I use on my face and body. I make sure I check with my dermatologist [Dr. KC Reyes of Luminisce Clinic] before trying new products, more so now that I’m pregnant. When it comes to eczema, moisture is your best friend!” says Patty, who is expecting her first child in July.
She keeps herself hydrated by drinking lots of water and applying oils and creams. Her reliable “arsenal” includes Bio Oil and products from Mustela (applied three times a day on certain parts of the body). For her face, Filart uses 100-percent Organic Argan Oil after cleansing every night.
When it comes to skin-care products and makeup, Filart, who is part of Watson Label Switch and Save campaign, is a loyalist who knows what works for her and sticks to them.
“Now that I’m in my 30s, I’m much more comfortable and confident in myself. I’ve embraced everything about my skin, the shape of my face, my features and even the ‘flaws’ that are actually things that make me unique!” For example, what Filart buys at Watson’s now that she is part of one of its campaigns are the same things she used to buy when the store wasn’t in the Philippines yet. These include the wet tissues, hair and face masks and breath mints. She also buys shampoo, bath gels and body scrubs from the global personal-care store.
“It’s not just about being thrifty. It’s saving pesos and cents for other things that you like, such as your home or traveling, which I love.”
Filart is impressed in both the quality of products and the breadth of choices that Watson’s offers. Even when it comes to shopping for other things, Filart is more decisive. She won’t buy 10 pairs of jeans in different colors. Instead, she would for three good pairs that would last for years. She just needs a few good pieces for her wardrobe and she is good to go.
Motherhood, says Filart, has changed her. She and her husband Patrick Filart have wanted a baby but she has had complications with fertility.
“I am scared and grateful at the same time. I know my life will change. I know my body will change. And I know I need to slow down.”
The Filarts are having a boy, who they will definitely not name Patrick or Pat or Patricio. The mom-to-be says there will be too many Pats in the house if that happens. “We want a name that will define this whole experience.”
