One of the best things in the world is opening a new box of lipstick and turning the tube to look at the bullet-shaped color.
Lipstick may be top of mind but that goes for any beauty product, be it makeup, skin care or fragrance. Unboxing is exciting for someone who loves beauty and writes about it.
Here are some of the beauty stuff I’ve been loving lately:
COLOURPOP LIPPIE STIX
I hate the word “lippie” but I love these lipsticks that come in retractable pencils. They’re very light (very convenient for girls who carry lots of lipsticks), inexpensive ($5 in the US) and very pigmented.
Every blogger/vlogger online has been raving about them, which usually makes me very cautious as I have fallen victim to makeup-related hype so many times. But when my friends started ordering them, I knew it was time to get onto the bandwagon.
I was a bit apprehensive about getting them at first because some of my friends said they were a bit drying. I have three colors—Brink, Lumiere and Frida—which are similar to each other. Brink and Frida are a bit too light for me, so I mix them with Lumiere and other pinkish-brown lipsticks like MAC Twig. Honestly, the quality of these lipsticks is the same as those of high-end brands.
But the thing is, you get less product and it is not available here. I got mine from an online seller on Instagram.
THE BODY SHOP MOISTURE WHITE SHISO OVERNIGHT TRIPLE BOOST SERUM AND MOISTURE WHITE BRIGHT COMPACT FOUNDATION
I am not a big fan of whitening products but I make an exception for The Body Shop’s Moisture White Shiso line. I am a big fan of the cleansing powder and I also like the serum. The Overnight Tripe Boost Serum and the Compact Foundation are new additions to the line. I love the products because they address hyper-pigmentation, a problem of more mature women and those who have to deal with acne scarring, and they contain vitamin C, liquorice, shiso and aloe vera.
I use the powder foundation on my T-zone because the shade I have (04) is a bit white for my entire face. It’s not cakey though and once the product is absorbed by the skin, it mimics a flawless look.
I haven’t used the serum yet but I’ve read so many good reviews about it.
MAC LIPSTICK IN BOCA FROM THE JULIA PETIT COLLECTION
Julia Petit is Brazilian beauty blogger commissioned by MAC to come up with a makeup collection. Even before this collection hit the store, I already singled out Boca lipstick as the one item I needed to have. Boca is a “soft pink nude” in a Satin finish. Wearing nude lipsticks is a bit tricky for me but Boca is perfect.
What is even more interesting is it fades to a stain that’s even darker than the color when you first apply it.
Sadly, this was sold-out everywhere (online and actual stores) and I couldn’t get a backup but I hope MAC brings it back again. I also got Acai lipstick from the same collection but I love Boca so much that I’ve worn it for four straight days.
