YOU may call it vanity or wellness, but people nowadays are more conscious about their health—physique and beauty. And with this consciousness, the wellness industry has been growing and it will continue to flourish as long as there are men and women who like to feel and look good.
And this immense growth can also be attributed to the countless social-networking sites, which are now the avenues of health aficionados who like to influence other people. From simple Internet-savvy, self-proclaimed health buffs, famous bloggers, to famous local and international artists, the social-networking sites became their best platforms to convince the people and their fans to adapt a healthy lifestyle.
Another amazing thing happening is the production of many interesting gadgets to answer the needs of every health-conscious individual. Aside from gadgets, countless web sites and even apps are being launched just to keep up with the demands of the growing market for ease and convenience.
GMA Artist Center wall climbing challenge
Recently, the GMA Artist Center held a wall-climbing challenge at Power Up in ROX, Bonifacio Global City to promote a healthy lifestyle. The event was participated in by some of the center’s talents like Stephanie Sol (part of the prime-time teleserye Nino), Jak Roberto (a regular of the weekend variety show Walang Tulugan with the Master Showman), Gabrielle Garcia (one of the casts of the prime-time teleserye My Destiny), Enzo Pineda (he is a regular in the Sunday variety show Sunday All Stars), Coleen Borgonia and selected friends from the media. Roberto won the challenge by scaling the wall in just 44 seconds.
While chatting with Pineda and Garcia, it’s good to learn that even before they joined the limelight of show business, they already know the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle.
Garcia, who is still in her teenage years is already a certified diver and firmly believes that drinking eight or more glasses of water a day will is one of the best and easiest regimen for a healthy skin. While Sol and Borgonia adapt an active lifestyle by dancing and fitness workout despite their busy schedule.
The dependable combination for a life of wellness and strength
Everybody loves to have a fit and sexy body, but who actually has the discipline and time to go to the gym or at least spend 30 minutes of jogging or brisk walking? Few of the biggest hurdles in committing to a healthy and fit lifestyle are discipline, time and money. Wellness cannot be achieved in a snap of a finger; it should be your lifestyle. There’s really no quick fix to staying fit and those pining for a leaner and healthier body must brace themselves for the hard work ahead.
While the importance of a sound workout program cannot be undermined, embracing a life of wellness demands more than just ripped abs and defined muscles. According to personal fitness trainer and lifestyle coach Jonnel Cruz, “Losing unwanted pounds, muscle and core strengthening, body toning—all these are part and parcel of keeping fit. But to be healthy is to live a better lifestyle based on change, discipline and commitment.”
Cruz is the founder of iFit Pro Unlimited, which advocates physical fitness as key to having optimum quality of life. He is also a freelance certified personal trainer since 2000, having trained both international and local celebrities most recent of which is actor Rocco Nacino and businessman Lucio Tan Jr. His expertise, meanwhile, is impressive with numerous certifications under his belt: TRX GSTC-certified, IKFF Certified Movement Specialist, Women’s Fitness Specialist, Youth Exercise Specialist, Coach Practitioner plus a IKFF Certified Kettlebell Teacher (both verified by fitness guru Steve Cotter) and certifications from the Gray Institute Foundation in the US for Applied Functional Science, Twist Conditioning & Trigger Point, ViPR, and BOSU.
For people living a sedentary lifestyle, Cruz recommends to go for a workout program that enhances the functionality of muscles rather than merely strengthening one’s physique because it’s much safer and doable.
Exercise machines have a lot to do with the success of a workout plan but he says that people must understand that this equipment are created for different purposes and therefore yield various results. For instance, some equipment are designed to simulate calorie-burning activities. Exercise contraptions are also catalogued according to function: the treadmill is good for improving cardiovascular endurance, benches and racks are used to work the abdominals and strengthen the muscles, and dumbbells improve grip and help develop upper body strength, to name a few.
He highly recommends Precor, a world-class premium gym equipment perfect for cardio, calorie burning, muscle training and endurance strengthening needs, distributed in the country by The Finix Corp. Precor treadmills, as well as their Adaptive Motion Trainers with Open-Stride and Elliptical Crosstrainers with the patented CrossRamp, calculate calories burned, heart rate, mileage, speed and remaining time and some models even have weight loss update and offer alternative running programs including hills, flats and other special choices.
“A good and balanced life has to involve all aspects of health — exercise, proper diet and health training,” Cruz notes. “One has to have discipline in training for strength, being sports specific, getting into functional and weight training, body weight training and with proper mentorship. For specific fitness needs, we should opt for durable and dependable exercise equipment like The Finix Corporation’s Precor products to yield better and faster fitness results,” he concludes.
