THE National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) is building a P173-million substation in Pangasinan that will serve three power distribution utilities (DUs) once finished in September next year.
The 100 megavolt ampere (MVA) substation will soon rise on a 7-hectare lot in Barangay Balingueo, Santa Barbara, Pangasinan. It will serve Central Pangasinan Electric Cooperative (Cenpelco), Dagupan Electric Corp. and the Pangasinan III Electric Cooperative. The substation project when completed with the new 69-kiloVolt (kV) lines to be installed by the three DUs will improve system reliability and operational flexibility in the 69-kV facilities of Eastern and Central Pangasinan.
“Pangasinan is one of the provinces with high electricity consumption. Because of improved economic activities in the area, load growth is expected. With the construction of this substation, NGCP is confident it will be able to keep up with this demand for power,” NGCP President and CEO Henry Sy Jr. said. NGCP is a privately owned corporation that is franchised to operate, maintaining, and develop the country’s power grid. It transmits high-voltage electricity through “power superhighways” that include the interconnected system of transmission lines, towers, substations, and related assets
The consortium, which holds the 25-year concession contract to operate the country’s power transmission network, is comprised of Monte Oro Grid Resources Corp., led by Henry Sy Jr., Calaca High Power Corp., led by Robert Coyiuto Jr., and the State Grid Corp. of China (SGCC) as technical partner.
