THE daily average foot traffic in Newport Mall is starting to normalize with revamped security measures, to go with a series of aggressive mall-wide offerings in retail, dining and entertainment.
The Las Vegas-inspired luxury establishment was initially closed for a “seven-day mourning period”, as announced by the Resorts World Manila (RWM) management a day after the tragic June 2 robbery incident. It wasn’t until June 15 that the mall started to resume operations.
Prior to its temporary closure, Newport Mall had a daily average foot-traffic count of 25,000 people. Newport Mall Marketing Manager Abi Garcia said in a recent event that they have already reached half of that figure since reopening two weeks ago.
“It’s still not as many as when the casino was still open, but we’re very happy with how the foot [traffic] has increased in the past 14 days,” Garcia added, hours before the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. lifted the suspension order on the gaming license of RWM operator Travellers International Hotel Inc.
Central to the mall operation’s resumption efforts is the implementation of more stringent security solutions. RWM has tapped top-tier Hong Kong-based security company Blackpanda, composed of former US and Canadian Special Operations personnel. According to its web site, the group “combines international military special-operations experience, methodology and technology with capable and trusted local partners to protect our clients’ investments”.
There’s also tighter check-ups for each car entering the property’s parking space. Airport-standard metal detectors and bag scanners have also been placed in all entry points of the mall.
Newport Mall Mall Operations Manager Mikee Vivo said they are thrilled to be welcoming mallgoers once again. “What better way to welcome back our guests with a big sale and other fantastic treats they can only enjoy here.”
Newport Mall has rolled a mall-wide sale where guests can get as much as 70 percent in discounts from retail and dining brands. Some of the retail outlets in the mall are Victoria’s Secret, Tommy Hilfiger, Guess, Puma, Adidas, Mango, Beyond the Box and Call it Spring. On the food front, Newport Mall houses seafood restaurant Red Crab, Japanese-themed outlet Mr. Kurosawa and Hawaiian shrimp house Johnny Kahuku, among others.
What’s more, cinema rates are marked down to P150 for kids 12 years old and below, and P170 for adults, every day from 1 pm to 4 pm. Musical events and live performance take centerstage every night at 7 pm at The Plaza.
Newport Mall also has offers for accessibility with a tie-up with popular hailing-service app Grab and a new parking-rate system. Users can key in the promo code “newportmall” in their Grabcar booking transactions to avail of a P50 discount going to or coming from Newport Mall.
Meanwhile, guests can avail of free parking by presenting a minimum amount of P500 in single or accumulated receipts. If not, the new flat-rate parking fee of P50 will apply.
All the promotions run until July 31.
Garcia said their group remains optimistic over the continued growth of foot traffic, especially toward the second half of the year leading up to the Christmas season.
The new operating hours of Newport Malls is now from 12 nn to 10 pm on weekdays, and 10 am to 10 pm on weekends.
