FOR Pocari Sweat, a new team manager translated to a new head coach—despite the previous mentor winning three titles for the Lady Warriors.
Atty. Ken Mirasol took over as team manager from Atty. Eric Ty and with the appointment came the changing of the guards at the coaching staff of the Lady Warriors, who won the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference last week.
Rommel Abella will no longer be calling the shots after he was named Director for Player Development. His long-time assistant, Rico De Guzman, took over.
Abella and De Guzman together won three straight titles for Pocari Sweat, the first two they clinched in the Shakey’s V-League, the PVL’s predecessor.
De Guzman was also a former coach of the Army Lady Troopers with two V-League titles in his resume.
National University Lady Bulldogs head Babes Castillo will be De Guzman’s lead assistant. He also bared plans of bringing back Clint Parley Tupas as one of his assistant coaches.
Tupas, a former assistant of Tai Bundit with the Ateneo Lady Eagles, was Pocari Sweat’s assistant coach during their title run in the 2016 Open Conference.
Pocari Sweat is led by two-time Finals Most Valuable Player Myla Pablo, setter Gyzelle Sy, libero Mel Gohing, middle blockers Jeanette Panaga, Jessey De Leon and Desiree Dadang, as well as open spikers Elaine Kasilag, Fille Cainglet and Shola Alvarez.
