Encouraged by the increasing preference of commuters to patronize the Pasig River ferry system as it reduces the travel time from Manila to Pasig City and vice versa, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) relaunched on Tuesday the Pasig River Ferry App, a self-contained program or piece of software designed to fulfill a particular purpose.
According to MMDA Chairman Emerson S. Carlos, it is now easy for the commuters to check the schedule of the Pasig River ferry service operations through the app, which can be downloaded via their smartphones and Android devices.
He said commuters can now check the estimated time of arrival and departure of the ferries at the 12 stations along the Pasig River.
“Actually, this is a relaunch. I think we launched it two years ago, but it did not become effective because there were only few boats operating at that time,” Carlos told reporters after the relaunch held at the Metro Manila Film Fest Cinema in Makati City.
The MMDA came out with the app, developed by Rising Tide Developers, to encourage more people to patronize the Pasig River ferry system as an alternative mode of transport, especially with the growing concerns on the state of the land-based mass-transport system.
