DAVAO CITY—Members of the Association of Mindanao Rural Electric Cooperatives (Amreco) are set to converge in Cagayan de Oro City for its first annual general membership assembly and summit on November 25 and 26.
The event will be facilitated jointly with the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA).
Amreco announced that the summit will be joined by leaders and representatives of electric cooperative constituencies, member-consumers and other stakeholders in Mindanao.
Invited to speak during the two-day event are top officials from the Department of Energy, Energy Regulatory Commission, National Electrification Administration and MinDA.
The general assembly and summit will carry the theme: “Federalism: Its impact on Mindanao Electric Cooperatives and Member Consumers.”
Amreco said the summit will be a perfect occasion for the participants to grasp the pulse of the power-development plans for Mindanao in the advent of federalism under the leadership of President Duterte.
The group also hopes that the gathering will provide effective venue for the energy stakeholders in Mindanao to derive insights on the proposed federal system of government as a key component in government reforms toward a hastened economic development, better financial mobilization and greater budget and fiscal autonomy in the regions.
Duterte has been invited to become the guest speaker of the event.
Sen. Sherwin T. Gatchalian, chairman of the Committee on Energy in the Senate, will speak on the impact of federalism on the power industry, while Senate President Aquilino L. Pimentel III will give an input on federalism in the Philippines.
