THERE days, it’s all about having on-fleek eyebrows. While I haven’t had mine done, not as of this time, microblading is very popular.
Microblading, said to be the solution to thin brows, is a form of tattoo artistry where pigment is implanted under the skin with a manual handheld tool. The aesthetician draws hairlike strands to mimic actual hair growth using the tattooing tool. The pigment is deposited lightly, so the color isn’t as intense as an actual tattoo.
PhiBrows, Europe’s premiere microblading academy, combines art and science to make the perfect brows. This year, PhiBrows is coming to the Philippines.
Branko Babic founded PhiBrows on the principle of phi, or the “golden ratio”. By adhering to this principle of perfect proportion, complemented by the strictest European standards on safety and quality, PhiBrows was able to come up with a procedure where the brows are beautiful and hyper-realistic.
The shape of your brows are calculated using the PhiBrows compass and app, and is determined according to your face and the golden ratio. The color of the pigments (PhiBrows uses natural pigments that won’t turn green) to be used is determined by the natural color of your eyebrow hair. Symmetry is measured digitally when your facial muscles are relaxed and your eyes are closed.
Aspiring PhiBrows artists go through a three-tier training program to become masters in the art of microblading. These PhiMasters travel the world to educate others on the PhiBrows technique.
Dovile Zilinskaite, one of PhiBrows top PhiMasters, visited the Philippines to impart her expertise in microblading to Filipino cosmetic artists. Having trained directly under Branko Babic, Zilinskaite has transformed her passion for the perfect brows into an art.
There are 37 certified and accredited PhiBrows artists in the Philippines. While in the country, Zilinakaite conducted several intensive training courses as PhiBrows prepares to establish its Philippine branch. “I’m grateful for what I’ve learned from Branko. He treated me like family, which is how I am with my students. I want us to be like a family. This is also the kind of relationship I want to build here in the Philippines for PhiBrows. I want to build a strong and professional community. Which, of course, will translate to our relationship with our clients as well,” she said.
Here are reminders to those who are considering having the procedure done on their brows:
- Microblading is still tattooing, so it is best to follow standard operating procedures. Stop drinking alcohol and/or aspirin a week before having it done.
- Lay off retinol for a week or two before the procedure. This is also a precaution when you’re having your eyebrows waxed or threaded.
- After microblading, your brows will look darker, but the intensity of the color will fade in time. Expect a little swelling and redness.
- To care for brows after tattooing, apply some cream like Cetaphil, while others swear by petroleum jelly.
If you’re interested in having your brows done by PhiBrows artists, contact to ask about the procedure and the fees involved:

Interesting article. Most microblading specialists use pigments that help to enhance the appearance of the eyebrows for a thicker more fuller look. I always recommend Perma Blend.
