Male agriculture workers receive higher pay compared to females, according to data recently released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
PSA data showed that in 2013, the nominal wage rate received by male agricultural workers averaged P236.34 per day.
This was P9.61 higher than the P226.73 per day received by female agricultural workers in 2013.
“In real terms, male agricultural workers received an average wage rate of P176.44 per day, while female agricultural workers were paid P169.27 per day in 2013,” the PSA said.
However, in terms of increase in wage rates between 2009 and 2013, the PSA said the wage rates of female agriculture workers grew faster than wages of male agriculture workers.
Data showed that the wage rate of males increased by 4.85 percent, while that of the females went up by 5.16 percent annually.
The PSA said that over the 2009 and 2013 period, the real wage rates of male and female agricultural workers grew by 1.17 percent and 1.48 percent, respectively.
Meanwhile, in terms of wages in the regional level, agricultural workers in Central Luzon received the biggest daily nominal wage rates at P347.99 for males and P315.13 for females.
“Wage differential was P32.86 in favor of the males. The wage rate of females grew at faster rate of 7.41 percent than that of the males at 5.91 percent,” the PSA said.
Data also showed that real wage rates in Central Luzon reached P256.96 per day for males and P232.70 per day for females. Wage gains corresponded to 2.33 percent and 3.78 percent.
The PSA said male and female agricultural workers in Central Visayas got the lowest daily nominal wage rates at P203.68 and P188.87, respectively. Data showed that the wage gain of males was higher at 6.43 percent, while for females, the wage increase was 5.62 percent.
The real wage rate of males was lower in Eastern Visayas at P147.90 per day which went up by 1.68 percent per year. Northern Mindanao posted the lowest real wage rate for the females at P135.11 per day and it was declining by 0.83 percent.
