AIRPORT customs officials on Tuesday impounded 197 grams of shabu (metamphetamine hydrochloride) worth P1.5 million found inside parcels that arrive on separate flights from the United Kingdom, Italy and Saudi Arabia.
The parcels were found in warehouses near the airport, hidden in a diaper, another inside a rice cooker, and the third in between wooden frame to mislead customs examiners, Customs Deputy Commissioner Ariel Nepumoceno says.
He withheld the identity of the parcel’s senders and recipient so as not to hamper the follow up operations. “This is probably the work of drug syndicates using various styles of sending drugs to foreign lands, says Ninoy Aquino International Airport Customs District Collector Edgar Z. Macabeo.
He said drug syndicates have turned to using the parcel service to send illegal items, on the mistaken belief that the airport postal service is lightly guarded.
Customs authorities turned over the confiscated drugs to Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for disposition.
