THE National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball games resume today after incessant rains wrought by Typhoon Gorio cancelled the NCAA On Tour on Thursday.
San Sebastian College was supposed to host Jose Rizal University (JRU) in the unique league feature where the games are brought closer to the schools via the home-and-away format.
“Due to bad weather and suspension of classes, the NCAA games are canceled,” Management Committee Chairman Fr. Glyn Ortefa, OAR, of season host San Sebastian, said in a statement.
Surprise leader Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU), meanwhile, eyes its fifth straight win when it takes on Mapua (1-3 won-lost) at 2 p.m. today at the Filoil Arena in San Juan.
The Pirates are in their best start since they joined the league in 2011. They recently beat the Arellano University Chiefs, 99-65, with CJ Perez taking control with 16 points.
Along the way, Lyceum has beaten favored teams JRU, San Sebastian, last year’s runner-up Arellano University and defending champion San Beda.
And it looks like LPU is going all out for win No. 5 against an undermanned Mapua side.
“The championship is there but is not within our reach. We need to win more games to get there,” Lyceum Coach Topex Robinson said.
University of Perpetual Help-System Dalta (1-2) and Emilio Aguinaldo College (2-2) collide at 12 noon, while Arellano University (2-2) and College of Saint Benilde (1-2) tangle at 4 p.m.
