THE Land Transportation Office will start distributing plastic license cards this Monday for those who have pending applications with the agency from January to October 16, 2016, in 36 licensing offices in Metro Manila.
At the same time, LTO chief Edgar Galvante warned the public not to deal with fixers who might take advantage of the huge number of claimants who will troop to various LTO licensing offices.
“I would like to caution all the claimants, that they need not pay a single centavo to claim their driver’s license since they already paid for it, all they have to do is show to our personnel at the claims counter their official receipt,” Galvante said.
He also clarified that you can claim your driver’s license at the LTO licensing office where you applied for it.
The January to October 16, 2016, backlog are still covered by the three-year driver’s license validity period since the cutoff for the five-year drivers validity period is on October 17.
The LTO earlier said plastic cards will be available by second quarter of 2017, but owing to efforts undertaken by the agency and the Department of Transportation, this resulted to the early release of plastic card, an early Christmas gift to the public. LTO Metro Manila Director Clarence Guinto said that of the 3 million plastic cards backlog nationwide, 700,000 are in Metro Manila.
To date, 36 printing machines with a capacity each of printing 800 cards daily have already been delivered to 24 LTO District Offices and 12 Drivers License Renewal Offices in the metropolis. Ten more printing machines are on standby as back up and can be used to print out more cards.
Guinto explained that the LTO’s last provider Allcard Plastics Philippines Inc. have already delivered 500,000 cards and is committed to deliver 3 million plastic cards between December 15, 2016 and February 2, 2017.
Meanwhile, the LTO clarified that stickers for vehicles are available and it can be issued on the day you registered your vehicles.
