THE Philippine computer market is not “mature” enough for 3-dimension (3D) technology, a computer giant’s country manager said.
“I don’t think [the 3D feature will come in the Philippines]. You have to sell it to a mature market but with this [Philippine] market, we are not yet ready,” Michael Ngan, Lenovo country manager told the Businessmirror on the sidelines of their product launch early-July.
Ngan cited the Chinese tech company’s 15-inch laptop would not have a 3D optical camera sensor that allows users to control the unit through hand gestures. Companies like Sony Corp. has been reportedly applying research along this line but more on game application.
“I don’t think that it [Lenovo Z51] ]will come with 3D. I don’t think we are ready [for 3D technology]. I dont think the market is ready,” Ngan said.
The P42,995-Lenovo Z51 comes with all the features of its global market counterpart except for its RealSense 3D technology. The unit has a dedicated AMD Radeon R9 Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) with a Full High Definition (FHD) display, as well as a Dolby DS 1.0 Home Theater Surround Sound, according to the documents provided by Lenovo. The Z51 has a 1-terrabyte hard disk drive (HDD) storage and powered with Intel Corp.’s Core i7 processor.
“I’ve seen SmartTVs with 3D in the market but they were eventually gone,” Ngan said.
Lenovo shipped the most personal computers (PC) in first quarter of 2015 with at least 13.35 million units or a 19.6-percent share in the global market, according to latest data from International Data Corp. (IDC).
However, IDC said in May it expects worldwide PC shipments to fall by 6.2 percent this year, “the fourth consecutive year of declining volume as the PC market continues to struggle with competition from tablets and smartphones and generally low demand.”
