LEARNING is a continuous process that even professionals, especially in public service, undergo to develop further their acquired skills for the better practice of their vocation.
In view of this, public holding company Aboitiz Equity Ventures Inc. (AEV) launched its pioneering capacity-building program on project management, involving 24 government employees, in a two-day workshop held recently at the Meranti Hotel.
Designed by the Project Management Institute, the series of seminars dubbed “Innovation in Governance [IG] Academy” is aimed at building a culture of competence and efficiency in handling projects that can help drive positive change within government departments and, later on, the agency itself.
Project Management Professionals Pablo L. Yambot and Alan Gosiengfiao facilitated the back-to-back workshops participated by public servants from the Office of the Cabinet Secretary (OCS) and Governance Commission for GOCCs.
The training showcased modules, different frameworks and approaches on project management, project initiation and planning, risk management, stakeholder involvement and project monitoring and implementation process.
Breakout sessions were also included for the participants that ventured on actual applications of project-management concepts to existing projects they are now handling.
Themed “Continuously finding #BetterWays to be of better service to the Filipinos”, the IG Academy works to promote a culture of innovation and excellence in governance and public management in order to drive change not only in the Philippines but globally as well.
“We can all provide great opportunities to serve the Filipino people better through this partnership,” lawyer Jeck Otero of OCS said.
AEV seeks to make the IG Academy more relevant to the partners of the government by offering special education on management and governance and sharing of best practices and innovations from the private sector.
“IG Academy is a decisive step toward strengthening the Aboitiz Group’s role in nation building. This is our way of continuously partnering with the government to advance the business and communities,” said Christopher Camba, vice president for government relations of AEV.
