ONLINE-shopping company Lazada E-Services Philippines Inc. expects to see a double-digit growth in revenues next year, riding on the rising demand for e-commerce services in the country.
Lazada Philippines CEO Inanc Balci said his firm sees the Philippines as an important market, as it has an underpenetrated e-commerce sector. The company, he said, is expected to grow faster than the local economy, measured through the gross domestic product (GDP).
“The market is so big, the Philippines is very underpenetrated, and we expect a double-digit growth to continue next year. We expect to grow much and much higher than the GDP,” Balci explained in an interview.
There are several factors contributing to this, he said, citing increasing consumption rates and the 1-percent penetration rate of the e-commerce market.
“These all contribute to growth of Lazada, and we have been growing double digit since we start operation in the Philippines. We can see the potential of e-commerce in the Philippines,” Balci added.
In a related development, Lazada is staging the biggest online-shopping extravaganza this December 12, partnering with several brands for the sale.
“We kicked off the monthlong Online Revolution sale in November, but the best is yet to come,” Balci said, adding the company offers free delivery for orders above P1,000 and cash-on-delivery payment option.
“More people will be shopping online this holiday season, as consumers want to beat crowds, wires and the inconvenience of shopping in malls and busy shopping districts,” he added.
Lazada is Southeast Asia’s largest online-shopping mall, with operations in six countries, including the Philippines. It is a unit of Rocket Internet AG, a Berlin-based firm where Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. holds a 6.4-percent interest in.
