LAMUDI Philippines has named its first-ever academic scholars for school year 2016-2017 in an effort to help poor, but exemplary, students in the country to continue studying.
Walter David Villegas, a junior development studies major student at the University of the Philippines Manila, and Jaynie Pajarillaga, also a third-year enrollee taking up communications course at Holy Angel University Pampanga, bested more than 100 applicants from different schools and universities nationwide.
“We saw in both Walter and Jaynie what we see in the Philippines: exceptional, talented and determined, and by thoroughly reviewing their application documents and credentials, we are very sure we made the right choice,” said Bhavna Shuresh, Lamudi Philippines and MyProperty.ph new managing director and CEO.
Both of them will receive P20,000 educational assistance that will be given directly to their respective schools to cover some of their tuition.
They will be awarded with a paid internship in any department at the Lamudi Philippines office.
“Working in a tech company, like Lamudi, will be a great opportunity for the two students. The nonstop innovation and learning in the Lamudi office will surely be a good training ground for these budding and promising talents,” Shuresh noted.
Villegas, who lives in Dasmariñas, Cavite, has to travel up to three hours daily to get to school. With limited cash allowance, however, he is determined to work hard and achieve good grades. In fact, he made a record of 1.33 general weighted average in the last semester. He believes the Lamudi grant will definitely help him finish his studies and later bring development to the world.
As an achiever hersel, Pajarillaga believes this is her way of giving back to her parents—a teacher and a driver. For her, will and determination are important to overcome any problem that may come her way.
“I never forget my goal to continue being excellent despite all the obstacles that block my way, and because of that, I am still consistent in maintaining high grades,” she said.
