KOSDAQ-listed MPK Group Inc. plans to open its 11th store in the Philippines by 2016.
The firm listed in the Korea Securities Dealers Association Quotation (Kosdaq) recently opened its first store in the Philippines and the Southeast Asian region under its Mr. Pizza franchise. “We want to cater not just to Koreans who are studying and working here but to a lot of Filipinos who have embraced the Korean culture,” Emilyn Tiangco, general manager of Kyochon Philippines Inc., said.
Tiangco said all the Korean firm’s pizza stores would be located inside shopping malls and only in Metro Manila. She cited malls in Manila, Mandaluyong, Quezon City and Taguig cities as locations for these stores. The food brand aims to have a delivery service by 2016. Tiangco said the company would import cheese and dough from Korea and source vegetables locally.
Mr. Pizza operates 80 stores in China and 400 in South Korea. It also has some stores in Brazil and the US. Mr. Pizza Korea Group is the only food brand listed in the Kosdaq, a first in the food and beverage industry, according to Tiangco.
Tiangco said a company called DineAsia has acquired the master license for Mr. Pizza in the Philippines. Mr. Pizza also operates buffet restaurant under the brand name of Jessica’s Kitchen and coffee shops under the brand name of Manoffin.
