FILIPINO fighter Jenel Lausa has one dream match in mind. And that is to square off with Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) star Conor McGregor.
Lausa, who hurdled his first tough test by making mincemeat of Chinese Yao Zhikui for a unanimous-decision victory late last month, viciously pointed reigning lightweight champion McGregor as his target for inside the octagon.
“We are both strikers, so definitely it would be an interesting fight,” said Lausa, a former Philippine Boxing Federation super-bantamweight king before trying his luck in the UFC.
But Lausa’s dream could turn into a nightmare, unless he prepares real hard for a fight with McGregor.
McGregor has an obvious advantage in height, reach and weight, not to mention reports that he would momentarily shift to boxing for a multimillion fight with retired but unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr.
The brandish fighter from Ireland, 4 inches taller than the 5-foot-5 Lausa, recently got his boxing license, which created a wild spur that the blockbuster bout between the two biggest faces of mixed martial arts and boxing scene may come to life.
And Lausa, 28, knows that a clash with McGregor is far from reality. He opts to make his own name to be a successful practitioner.
“If he goes down in weight, even at 135 lbs, I want to have a fight with him,” said Lausa, referring to the Irishman who had an impressive debut in the 155 lbs territory against Eddie Alvarez last month.
“I’ll try my best and give 100 percent every time I fight. Winning is important to me, and I’m carrying the pride of our country and my family,” added the Iloilo native, who holds a record of seven wins and two losses.
